Weatherford (February 23) -
The Sundancers competed Saturday
at Weatherford High School in Danceline Productions'
Fort Worth Area Competition.
1st
Lieutenant, Senior, Taylor Newman,
placed 4th out of 60 high school
soloists! This is a huge accomplishment!
Senior Briana Hobbs was 2nd
runner up in the toe touch contest
held after the regular contest had concluded. About
40 dancers entered this contest, and it was very exciting
to watch Briana advance round after round in front
of hundreds of people.
Seniors Lara Wilson and Ryan Perry
advanced to semi-finals of the high kick contest,
and sophomore Erin Peters advanced to semi-finals
in the turns contest.
The officers (Lara Wilson,
Taylor Newman, Charlene Clarke, Jasmine Scott, Cody
Coke, and Adriana Wood) received sweepstakes
for all scores 90 or above, Best
in Category for Officer Novelty, a
judges' award for overall presentation, and
were GRAND CHAMPIONS of the officer contest!!
This is the first time in my eight years of
directing that I have ever had an officer line to
win Grand Champions!! The officers are the best
of the best of each team, so for our officers to be
the Grand Champs means our best were better than the
all the other schools best.. Big, big deal in
dance/drill team competitions.
The team also received sweepstakes
for scores all above 90, and were
Best in Category for military and high kick.
The were 1 point from a perfect score on high
kick! Another first in my career! Huge achievement
by these ladies. These categories are very competitive.
